Vaccine Milestone: Governor Hogan Announces Maryland Surpasses 7 Million Total Vaccinations

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today announced that the State of Maryland has surpassed 7 million COVID-19 vaccines administered, as the state’s vaccination rates continue to outpace the nation.

To date, Maryland has reported 7,009,919 vaccinations.

  • 75.8% of Marylanders 18 and older have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, outpacing the national rate of 67.8%.
  • 92.4% of Marylanders 65 and older have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, outpacing the national rate of 88.8%.
  • Maryland ranks 6th in the nation, with 57.4% of the total population fully vaccinated.

“It is clearer than ever that these vaccines are extremely effective, but those who are unvaccinated do remain at risk, especially with the highly transmissible variants—including the Delta variant that is currently circulating,” said Governor Hogan. “If you have not gotten your vaccine, the virus and its variants are a threat to you. Getting vaccinated is the only way to protect yourself, and continue our recovery.”

Last week, the state released new data showing that all COVID-19 deaths in June, as well as 95% of cases and 93% of hospitalizations, were among unvaccinated people.

The state continues to focus on making vaccines accessible to Marylanders through the No Arm Left Behind initiative, the Maryland Vaccine Equity Task Force, and the GoVAX Mobile Summer Tour. As of today, more than 700 pharmacy providers are listed on covidvax.maryland.gov, and the state’s multilingual call center is available seven days a week at 1-855-MD-GOVAX. In addition, vaccines are available through more than 400 primary care providers across the state.

In addition, after completing a successful $2 million vaccine lottery, the state has launched a $1 Million VaxU Promotion to provide $50,000 scholarships to 12- to 17-year-olds who get vaccinated.
