Kodaline energizes fans at U Street Music Hall

Kodaline continued its US tour Saturday night as they played U Street Music Hall in Washington DC.  The sold-out show was started with the electrifying LP.  You could tell most of the crowd was their to see Kodaline, but when Laura Pergolizzi took the stage you could immediately see crowd getting into every song.  When she burst into “Into the Wild” the crowd sang and whistled along to every word.

So far  LP only has an EP out but a full-length CD is right around the corner.  Look out for this band, because the next time they come around, you will be seeing them in a much larger venue.

Next up was Kodaline, the Dublin-based Irish rock band. Formerly known as 21 Demands, the Irish band made chart historyreleasing their debut single, “Give Me A Minute” in 20007. It  became the first independently released track to top the Irish charts.

The band changed its name to Kodaline in 2011. Steve Garrigan and Mark Prendergast, who grew up together in Swords, Dublin where they also met drummer Vinny May. In 2012, bass player Jason Boland joined the band.

As soon as Garrigan and the band took the stage you could here the packed music hall erupt in cheer and it didn’t stop their.  First off was “After the Fall,” one of 11 songs from the bands 2012 album “In a Perfect World.”

The crowd was with them the whole time, singing to every word and at several times during the show, they took away the vocals and belted the lyrics as loud as they could.  In a  Baltimore Post-Examiner phone interview with May,  you can see why fans connect so much to their music.  Kodaline not only writes songs about love and breakups, but the consider the songs to be a therapy for them and their audience.

Growing up in the same small town in Ireland, the band slowly formed and when they risked it all and put all of their effort on the line, it all paid off.  May said the band is really excited about their new CD  and for their upcoming tour date with Kings of Leon.

Kodaline finished off their set with their most popular song and a song that has been featured on the MTV show Catfish and The Vampire Diaries, “All I Want.”  The song is about wanting a girl back and finding a girl like her – a struggle that fans appeared to relate to in the audience.

Make sure to check out Kodalines album “In a Perfect World” and check them out next time they are playing in a venue near you.
