Something a little different from me: Tidbits of News
I must have too much time on my hands. I have found myself looking for what I thought were interesting tidbits of news that wouldn’t necessarily make headlines. After collecting a batch I got to wondering, okay so now what? Hey
I know I’ll send them to the Baltimore Post Examiner and let them figure it out. So if you’re reading this, I guess they decided to humor me.
So here comes some ‘stuff’ I bet you didn’t know and probably didn’t care to. Two books to recommend, ‘Memoirs and Misinformation’ by Jim Carrey and, ‘The Answer is: Reflections on my Life’, by Alec Trebek….a film to recommend is Greyhound with Tom hanks, set in a submarine during WWII and available on Apple TV…Willie Nelson is releasing his 70th studio album, First Rose of Texas, and Taylor Swift has released her 8th studio album, Folklore.
Towson University is missing out on a huge payday, about $325,000, since the Maryland Terps will only be playing conference rivals this season. The two teams were scheduled to play….Survivor has been pulled from the CBS fall line-up, no way they could produce any shows…Tom Bergeron won’t be back as host for Dancing With the Stars, being replaced by Tyra Banks…Burger King is changing the diet of its cows by adding lemon grass. They say that will reduce the amount of methane in the air by 33%. We all thank them.
Netlix announced The Crown will be back for a 6th season. They previously said season five would be the last…they also announced they picked up 10.1 million new subscribers worldwide April thru June. People are desperate for entertainment…According to Consumer Reports, the most exceptional top five cars on the road are the Toyota Corolla, Subaru Legacy, Toyota Avalon, Subaru Forester and the Lexus Rx. I can’t afford any of them…a Towson developer purchased Village of Cross Keys for $37 million.
If you happen to have a 2003-2004 LeBron James Upper Deck Rookie Patch Parallel Card, hold on to it….one recently sold at auction for $1.84 million. My high school graduation picture is also available for sale….Martha Stewart is hosting a new show for HG TV, Martha Knows Best…during this pandemic four things are doing well, drive-ins, bicycles, books and puzzles…here’s another book suggestion, ‘A Very Punchable Face’, by Colin Jost of SNL.
Joan Baez is the recipient of the Woody Guthrie prize…Mike Tyson is stepping back into the ring for an exhibition bout Sept 13 against Roy Jones, a four-division champion…Baltimore City is # 22 on the list of combined real estate value, $310 billion…the Baltimore Symphony has canceled all live performance thru the end of November…you want to laugh, check out Jim Gaffigan’s new Amazon Prime special, The Pale Tourist…on July 31 a new Muppets series will debut on Disney Plus…
And finally, according to a national survey, 90% of Americans are adopting new precautions for travel. Among them are shorter trips, going someplace close to home and driving themselves. In addition, American and United Airlines has given the okay for capacity flights. Meanwhile Southwest is blocking the middle seat thru Sept 30 and Jet Blue is doing the same thing thru July 31.
Be honest, don’t you feel a lot better knowing all this!
